How to Make Mascara with Your Own Hands

Long thick eyelashes make your eyes more expressive. It’s enough to apply 1-2 layers of mascara to the villi to transform the face. At the same time, it’s not necessary to buy decorative cosmetics. You can make mascara with your own hands at home, using environmentally-friendly materials and avoiding adding chemicals.

Why it is worth making mascara with your own hands:

  1. Its cost will be minimal
  2. You can apply it easily with a handy brush
  3. Since there are no doubtful chemical ingredients in the composition, you won’t need to worry whether the product might be harmful to your health
  4. You’ll be able to remove it effortlessly with an ordinary washing foam or tonic

Homemade cosmetics have their disadvantages. Firstly, the product won’t be waterproof. You shouldn’t apply it before you go swimming in a pond or visit a sauna or simply in hot weather. Secondly, the shelf life of self-made cosmetics is only a couple of weeks. Then, you’ll have to make the mascara again. The good thing is that won’t take you long to try all the recipes. Before you get down to work, it’s necessary to prepare a ceramic container, a wooden stick and a pair of thin rubber gloves.

Here are some easy and efficient recipes for your consideration:

  1. Put half of the egg yolk into the container. Add 3 crushed tablets of activated charcoal. Mix the mass until it becomes smooth.
  2. In the container, mix 3 tablets of activated charcoal and 0.5 tsp of aloe vera juice. Add a drop of glycerin.
  3. Mix 3 drops of glycerin with a pinch of guar gum, 2 tsp of black clay and 2 ml of water.
  4. Grind 3 tablets of charcoal into a saucer. Introduce castor oil, making sure to obtain a creamy consistency.
  5. Mix 0.5 tsp of black or brown food coloring with the same amount of cornstarch and 1 tsp of boiled water.
  6. Mix 2 tablets of charcoal with a pinch of starch, 2 drops of almond oil and 3 drops of lens fluid.

The resulting mass should be viscous and thick. Use a syringe to put it in an old mascara tube and store it in the fridge. If the product dries out, dilute it with almond oil, strong black tea or boiled water. Difficulties tend to arise during the first preparation: lumps appear in the mascara and its consistency becomes thicker than expected. In this case, it makes sense to conduct an experiment by increasing the amount of water or other components. To make blue, yellow or red mascara (feel free to suggest any other color), it’s enough to buy a food dye of the desired shade. Mix it with starch and micellar water and strive to reach the required consistency.
