Vision Boards: Making Your Dreams a Reality

Close your eyes and imagine your ideal life. What do you see? Where are you? Who are you with? What have you accomplished? Here’s another question for you: how are you going to make these dreams a reality?

In walks the vision board…

Ask me what my favorite part of my bedroom is and I’ll answer you without hesitation: my vision board. Every morning I look at it and feel inspired.

I know what you’re thinking.

What is the world is a vision board? A vision board is a tool you can use to concentrate on your life goals. Quite literally, a vision board is a board where you display your visions, life goals, hopes, and dreams. It’s a visual depiction of your ideal life.

Why make one?

Vision boards give your goals clarity. They help you reinforce your affirmations and your intentions. The main purpose of a vision board? Visualization. This is where you use the power of your mind to imagine yourself reaching your goals. From there, you can take the steps toward reaching those goals. Pro athletes use visualization before their competitions to imagine their success. And you can use it to visualize your ideal life!

How to Make a Vision Board

Turns out, making a vision board is quite simple.

Step 1: Gather your supplies

  • a cork board or poster board
  • glue or thumb tacks
  • scissors
  • old magazines
  • photos that inspire you
  • pictures that represent your goals

Step 2: Plan

Think about your goals.  For example, do you want to get stronger? Leaner? Smarter? Get a new job? A new house? Learn to surf? Once you know your goals/visions, begin to find images that represent them. For example, if you want a new house, find a magazine picture or computer image of the ideal house. Then, cut it out and paste it on your board. Continue this process until all of your goals and visions are represented.

Step 3: Visualize

Put your vision board somewhere you’ll be able to look at it every day. For example, I keep mine by my dresser drawer. Every day, admire your vision board. Look at the pictures and visualize your success. Then, ask yourself, “How am I going to reach those goals? What steps can I take today that will put me one step closer toward those goals?”
