Maximizing Mental Health

People always want to lose weight, start a new diet plan, or begin whatever workout is trending that month. People focus on their physical health and what is seen on the outside, but do they focus on their mental health what is found on the inside? Not always. It can be hard to find time to sit down and clear your head. We all deserve to be at peace with ourselves, physically and mentally. Here are some tips on improving mental health:

1. Be Yourself

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive than is you-er than you” – Dr. Seuss
We all read Dr. Seuss’s books as kids, but did we really think about how some of the lessons we were taught are lifelong? YOU are the only you. The world would be boring if we were all the same, so embrace being you! Embrace your quirks and flaws.

2. Practice self-care

Practicing self-care can look different for everyone. For me, it’s going to bed early, taking long walks with my dog, and buying myself something new every once in a while. For others, it can be meditating in the morning, attending a yoga class, or going on an adventure with your closest friends. Value yourself enough to make self-care part of your routine. You won’t regret it!

3. Practice gratitude

We all have so many things in our life to be grateful for. We don’t normally take the time to sit and reflect on how grateful we really are. Take time out of your day to call your mom and say thanks for everything that she does. Or call up your best friend to say thanks for always being there. Don’t forget to always be grateful for you and all that you are.

4. Go easy on yourself

Everybody makes mistakes! Nobody’s perfect! Everyone struggles. There are going to be some people who are better than you at certain things. That’s life! It’s impossible to do everything right, so be proud of the things you are able to do and the things you have accomplished!

5. Surround yourself with good people

Don’t spend time around people who bring you down and make you feel small. Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself. Life is short – so be sure to spent it with people who care.
